A black frame also works on brightly coloured walls. If there's darker details in the design the black will help to compliment these too.
WHITE FRAMES
Likewise, a white frame on a darker background will give a great eye-catching pop to your space!
A white frame also looks great on a coloured wall. Again, look at the colours within your print. A white frame will work great with a print that has a lot of white highlight in the design.
OAK FRAMES
An oak frame works well against prints and backgrounds with earthy, natural tones. The natural oak compliments the mustard colours in the print, as well as the content of the actual design. The natural finish of the wood sits well with the outdoorsy design of the print and along with the surroundings and colours it gives a tonally pleasing feel.

If you are dealing with a patterned background or wallpaper, try to pick a frame which is sympathetic to the background. This marbled splash back is primarily light with some darker highlights and so a black frame helps to make the print stand out and compliment the details of the background, whereas a white frame would caused it to be lost.
