Howdy pals! Welcome to the first (of hopefully many) Behind the Brand updates from us! We realised that whilst we keep you up to date on new prints and collections we release, we never really talk about what goes on behind the scenes in the studio. So this will be your monthly look at what we're working on, what we've been inspired by, what we're listening to and what we've been up to for the past 4 weeks.
We'll also be talking about the commission side of Telegramme and what it's like being commercial illustrators along with running our online store. So scroll down to take a peak inside the studio with us...
NEW TOOLS...
We've been getting to grips with our new tools in the studio. We tried out the iPad Pro recently but we didn't feel that we had enough creative freedom within Procreate and we very much missed the full versions of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. So, we are back to our preferred non-Apple lifestyle with the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio. So far they seem to be exactly what we've been looking for. The ability to use full Illustrator with the Surface Pen seems to be the perfect mix of digital ability with the freedom to sketch and draw that we were looking for. We will keep updated as we learn more about this new tool but so far it's an enthusiastic thumbs up from us!
LISTENING TO...
Our usual studio listening is pretty evenly split between podcasts and music and a favourite current album is Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night by Bleachers. For fans of The Boss
WHERE WE'VE BEEN...
We took a trip to France over the half term holiday to reset and get some fresh air, fresh eyes and fresh inspiration. Whilst we very much enjoyed some stunning architecture and beautiful packaging design (oh the amount of spice jars and different butters I wanted to bring home), it turns out that when you go on holiday with 2 kids under 6 the last thing you come back with is fresh eyes. But we had a blast so c'est la vie!
NEW WORK...
We've had this in the back of a sketchbook for years and finally made the time to work it up into two new prints - our new Lucky In Love print, available in a light variant and dark variant and in various sizes too.
NEW SKILLS...
We've recently been experimenting with some new styles and mark making using our new Surface Laptop Studio. We're a huge fan of finding great new brushes to use in illustrator and we've loved discovering the new ones that the Surface Laptop Studio has to offer. It's been a departure from our clean, graphic style and back to a more textured, sign painted approach. It's been lovely to revisit an earlier style but to bring it up to date with our current designs. We love the outcome and it's reminded us to keep exploring and expanding our knowledge and style for sure!
