The North York Moors is an upland area in North Yorkshire, England, containing one of the largest expanses of heather moorland in the UK, which covers miles of the park, creating a truly unique and rare sea of purple flowers during the summer months. This was one of our main inspirations for the print.

The Park was designated in 1952 and is one of the most wooded of England's National Parks.

Wildlife in the North York Moors National Park includes red grouse, short-eared owl to skylark and snipe. As well as insects, butterflies, mice, voles, lizards and other small mammals alongside the adder, Britain's only poisonous snake.

Trickling streams and peaceful rivers are a beautiful and important part of the character of the North York Moors. They provide a habitat for the range of wildlife as well as a scenic and relaxing part of the landscape for recreational activities such as cycling, which was clearly our main inspiration, in particular it's part in the Tour de Yorkshire annual race.
